2014 Cross Border M&A Deal in logistics

Quehenberger Logistics is taking over five national companies in Eastern Europe from Logwin Salzburg (Austria) und Grevenmacher (Luxembourg). Two hundred Logwin AG employees are being integrated into the Quehenberger organisation in Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Romania and Serbia. Thirteen new branches condense the Quehenberger Logistics network into a total of 79 sites. With an additional 36,400 square metres of warehouse space, Quehenberger manages over 190,000 square metres of warehouse and cross dock areas. With the additional seven sites, Quehenberger is hugely expanding its position in the new EU state of Croatia. The buyer is especially interested in the textile and automotive industry.

Logwin AG, Grevenmacher (Luxembourg), develops comprehensive logistics and service solutions. In 2012, the group generated sales of 1.3 billion euros and currently employs approximately 4,700 staff. Logwin operates in all main markets worldwide and has over 250 locations across all continents. Quehenberger Logistics is a high-quality medium sized owner managed company providing transport management and network and contract logistics services in Central and Eastern Europe, and is based in Austria. At present, the company employs 2,140 people at 79 locations in 17 countries.

DFDS acquires Karlshamn Express. DFDS has bought 100% of the shares of the Swedish logistics company. The Danish-based company has also acquired the remaining 50% of the share capital of the associated company Karlshamn Express Baltic SIA. The main activity of Karlshamn Express is transport of full and part loads between Sweden and the Baltics, Russia and surrounding countries. In addition, domestic transport and warehousing services are provided.

Karlshamn Express transport and logistics services are provided using different transport modes, including road, rail and shipping, and the company is a major customer on DFDS Seaways’ route between Karlshamn and Klaipeda. Dachser has increased its stake in Oy Waco Logistics Finland. The air and sea freight logistics company headquartered in Vantaa, southern Finland, not far from the capital Helsinki, has additional sites in the commercial centers Lahti, Oulo, Tampere, and Vaasa. In 2012, 54 employees generated almost EUR 24m in revenue for the company. Waco Finland was founded in 1996 by leading members of WACO (World Air Cargo Organisation) and three Finnish shareholders. After the acquisition the only other remaining share holder besides Dachser is the Japanese logistics company Nishitetsu Railroad (NNR). Finland is an attractive market for air and sea freight says Thomas Reuter, managing director of Dachser Air & Sea.
